The Chicken and the Egg

We are used to seeing our life's turmoils as the chicken and the egg story. Looking for who did what to who. Looking for what came first? What caused what? As we go about with our lives we notice that our outer shell is cracking, and it seems like there is nothing we can do about it. This is the reality of our lives. Or is it?

We are used to seeing our life’s turmoils as the chicken and the egg story. Looking for who did what to who. Looking for what came first? What caused what? As we go about with our lives we notice that our outer shell is cracking, and it seems like there is nothing we can do about it. This is the reality of our lives. Or is it?

What is the definition of reality and what is real?

We tend to interpret anything that can be experienced as real. Even when we’re experiencing emotions, or thoughts in our imagination that have no physical representation, they are all real to us because we can experience them.

We create concepts by describing the idea that they represent. Some concepts are nothing but a collection of unmanifested thoughts. A cloud of ideas. And if something happens that presumably threatens the imagined meaning of a concept that we believe in, then we get scared. We feel something happening physically in our bodies, that causes us to react. That to me is extraordinary, how can a made up something like a concept create a physical experience.

Here is some example of concepts – Democracy, Order, Safety, Honesty, Justice, Equality, Beauty, etc. These are not actual things that exist as events or physical stuff these are general descriptions that have names. Just like you and me, we have names and we sort of agree, on what they represent. When you say your name to yourself, you have a bunch of ideas in your head that correspond with your name. A bunch of concepts that describe you and what you think that you are. Concepts like worthiness, self-esteem, all sorts of character concepts that describe personality.

Now, do you think that they are real?

As we just have seen a concept is a made up thing, an agreement, something that grabs your attention and as long as you’re clinging to that it has the potential to break, and alter your physical state. Any kind of belief represents a concept that your attention is grasping on.

What is even worse is that people believe they are the sum of everything that they believe in, all the truths, the beliefs, all the concepts that they grasp on. It might not seem apparent to you, but the moment you give something your eternal attention that something becomes a part of you until the end or at least until you decide it is not important to you anymore.

Metaphorically speaking if we are all eggs and the shell of an egg is all of our beliefs. That shell has the tendency to crack when you face a situation that is against your beliefs or threatens your truth. The cracking of the shell is affecting a person mood, health, and happiness.

All our imagined created concepts seem so innocent, untouchable like a cloud, and yet they are as real as a heart attack. Say your name to yourself, find out what it represents to you, what concepts, ideas, beliefs are synonymous to your name? What is important to you that is causing your shell to crack. Understand that you are not that shell, because there is no egg, and it is all in your beautiful imagination.

Yours truly,
Boris.
