A bird flying around all day looking for food, building its shelter, flying with other birds, at the end of the day comes back home to rest and sits on a branch on a tree. As the bird sits tight on a branch, the wind continually sways the tree. But the bird doesn’t fight the wind nor the swaying of the branch it sits on. It sways together with the branch allowing, to be taken in any direction. It allows the wind to blow in its face being aware of the surrounding nature and other birds, it just rests.
We are also like birds running around all day doing our business, but at the end of the day when it comes to rest, we find ourselves unable to rest. Our thoughts and emotions take us. Our body is fighting criticism, conclusions, worries, fears even when we are sitting still on the couch or lying on the bed.
We fight the wind and where it takes us in our minds.
Go outside observe a bird on a branch, see how peaceful it is swaying with the wind, undisturbed, resting, trusting nature to keep it safe.
See that you are already safe at this moment as that bird. Allow everything to take you, to sway you from side to side as you stay still with yourself, undisturbed, resting.
