As long as you are alive you are living a story. Right now I’m writing this story and have no idea where it will lead me, but I feel that this is what I need to do right now, and it is kinda exciting.
You see the story that I’m living is very much like your own. We go through similar stuff, experience similar emotions although each of us is living in a different circumstance.
If I would have told you a heartbreaking story, you would react with sadness. If I would have told you an inspiring story, you might feel uplifted. If I would have told you a story about kindness and goodwill, you would feel gratitude.
Although our lives may look different, we are all connected by the stories we live and tell.
Take a moment and replace the word life with the word story. See that you are the narrator of your story. The one that goes about telling himself and others about what is happening in the current chapter in your life. What you have seen, heard, experienced, what scared you or made you smile.
Imagine holding a book that tells the story of your life. Would you flip it till the end wanting to know how it all ends?
Our life becomes irrelevant once we know how it all ends. Just like when you lose interest in a movie when someone tells you the ending.
Interestingly enough, although we don’t want to know ahead of time how things end up being when watching a movie or reading a book, this is all we think about living our daily lives.
We are constantly predicting and assuming how things will turn up. Checking our predictions, worrying about things not going according to plan and so on and so forth.
If you choose to see your life as a story and an interesting one, then wouldn’t you agree that such a story needs to be a little bit challenging or perhaps a bit scary at times. A good story needs a plot that keeps the audience’s attention and curiosity going otherwise there wouldn’t be much to tell.
If you think that where you are right now in life is just another chapter written in your story, then suddenly it all looks a bit less scary. Where will your story take you no one knows, not even you. Only one thing is for sure, as long as you keep living with curiosity, your story will keep changing and evolving.
You don’t stop reading a book when the hero’s spirit is defeated in the second chapter. Because you know that this is what makes this book so good.
A story, worthwhile telling, is the one that keeps on going no matter what happens.
